Kate brings her background in counseling, research, systems analysis, entrepreneurship, and instructional design to the Lavelle Fund. As Scholarship Program Coordinator, Kate supports Lavelle – Brother Kearney Scholars as they engage in undergraduate and graduate studies in preparation for a professional career. Kate also works with our affiliated colleges and universities, as well as with the New York State Commission for the Blind and local rehabilitation agencies, in a consultative role to identify and troubleshoot access and equity issues.

As a social-entrepreneur, Kate also founded and directs a NYS-certified Woman Owned Business (WBE), providing training in technology, pre-college preparation, career development, academic advisement, and corporate workplace training using Universal Design principles. She and her team have been innovators in the field of online learning for students who are blind or visually impaired, providing live, accessible online classes since 2007.

Kate is a cum laude graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York and holds MA and EdM degrees in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and visiting museums.
